Separation 40

I had the pleasure of catching Separation 40 with Charity, Colin, Jon & Tjin last night. I think we all enjoyed ourselves. I sure did, manage to take down a few mental notes on the play itself. Overall, it was a good performance though there were some parts that missed me. I could go into detail with regards to the play but i’ll leave with something that struck me that night. After the play, we (well, mainly Charity and I) dived for the samosas! They rock! Hehe….I think we had like 5 each, whilst Colin had 1 :( haha. Itulah…local performing artist mingling with the crowd. I didn’t go without the nice orange juice as well, fresh with pulp; not the yucky cordial type. Yeah! =)

Well, Colin was still basically chatting with other people, well it happens when you’re popular..haha, Charity and I went to walk around and looked at the write ups of Separation 40. There was one bit that struck me, the bit where Chua EnLai commented about Krishen Jit. I can’t remember word for word but the message got across.

“Krishen has taught me that as a performer, a lay man can only do it once but an actor can do it over again and again every other night” – comment on repeatability.

Great stuff, shall take this note and apply it to myself too. And Colin made another point, well being in Melbourne for 4 years does run the laidback lifestyle on you, slow on my feet. May I not drag my feet while performing.

On a flipside, my recent music favourites has been Casting Crowns and Dishwalla!

Who am I?

Artist: Casting crowns
Song: Who am I

Who am I?
That the Lord of all the earth,
Would care to know my name,
Would care to feel my hurt,
Who am I?
That the Bright and Morning Star,
Would choose to light the way,
For my ever wandering heart,

Not because of who I am,
But because of what You’ve done,
Not because of what I’ve done,
But because of who You are,

I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow,
A wave tossed in the ocean (ocean),
A vapor in the wind,
Still You hear me when I’m calling,
Lord, You catch me when I’m falling,
And You’ve told me who I am..
I am Yours.

Who am I?
That the eyes that see my sin,
Would look on me with love, and watch me rise again,
Who am I?
That the voice that calmed the sea,
Would call out through the rain,
And calm the storm in me,

Not because of who I am,
But because of what You’ve done,
Not because of what I’ve done,
But because of who You are,

I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow,
A wave tossed in the ocean (ocean),
A vapor in the wind,
Still You hear me when I’m calling,
Lord, You catch me when I’m falling,
And You’ve told me who I am…
I am Yours, I am Yours.

I am Yours,
Whom shall I fear?
Whom shall I fear?
‘Cause I am Yours,
I am Yours.

Morning prayer

Father in heaven,

I thank you for this morning, thanking you for pursuing me with your love. The love that never fades nor dies, and the reason for keeping me by your side. What have I ever done for you to love me THAT much. I’ll never understand. This genuine touch of yours never fails to amaze me. No God, you’re not selling a product of hope, love or faith. You’re just you, you’re just being a friend, a father, a saviour to me.

You’ve blessed me with many things in life O God, I’m truly thankful. We’re called to be your stewards, your ambassadors of your kingdom, what an honour to be serving you Lord! I don’t doubt one day Lord that I may once again be the bride that runs away and look for other lovers, because I’m weak.

I fear Lord that with my own strength I won’t be able to finish that race, and with my own strength I’ll make decisions that will cause me to sway and be lost in the world. I have been there, Father. I have been radical for the wordly things before, more than once, more than I ever wanted to be. By your grace, I was saved, by your mercy, I manage to escape fatality, by your love, I was found yet again.

I can’t thank you enough for this relationship, because if it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t know what I am living for. At least now I know, the comfort of having you in my life stands true. I pray O Lord, let me be radical for you, have faith like a child and not of a teen who searches for love in magazine materials or the flavour of the months of ice cream parlors.

I have seen and experienced that when I lean forward in your name, go forth in your presence, you have shown that much can be done beyond my abilities through you. For you O Lord, is Lord of All!

May I be the salt of the earth and the light of the world!

Amen.

Cinderella Man

I had the pleasure of watching Cinderella Man today. It was such a fantastic movie. Definitely one of my recent favourites. There is something about Russell, sure is. Whenever I watch him, I seem to forget that I’m watching Rusell Crowe but instead actually locking in to the character that he is portraying, the bulldog boxer!

Such a dramatic story of life, of what does one fight for in life. In his case, milk. The source of food and shelter, the source of needs rather than wants. The driving force when everything is stripped away, given a second chance, you don’t want to lose it again. For me, it puts things in perspective, that life is a battle indeed. To know how blessed we are, but also realizing that there are people out there fighting to put food on their table. His dramatic portrayal manage to strike a chord in me to feel for him. Well done, Rusell! Well done!

Definitely plan to watch it again.

An interesting article on The Star today, with regards to the entertainment industry. Would you rather be Paris Hilton or Jodie Foster? Would you want a career of long term recognition or rather be in the face of every magazine cover, an actress of b-grade movies and whatever else that may boost the appreciation of one’s self image persona. I clearly take the former, if you ask me.

Different

I am often guilty of responding to the calling
With doubtful thoughts – Why me?
Why does it have to be me?
Why does it always have to be me?
Maybe I have been looking at it all differently, that’s why

As we take our place beside God
We take our stand to be different
From the rest of the world
As different as we may be
We stand to make a difference
In peoples’ lives of this world

For now I understand the significance
Of my father’s love and grace
For His love took Him to the grave
But rose again to make me brave
So that we all may become a base
That may shine in this world of decadence

As we take our place beside God
We take our stand to be different
From the rest of the world
As different as we may be
We stand to make a difference
In peoples’ lives of this world

So may I be different in my views
Once again asking – Why me?
What have I ever done to receive your love and grace
That you may love me as your own
Even when the world took to disown
A different stand now I take to be known

As we take our place beside God
We take our stand to be different
From the rest of the world
As different as we may be
We stand to make a difference
In peoples’ lives of this world

Potential

Potential – your untapped or unlocked capacity

Potential – the hint of greatness not yet developed

There is a point where you’re not supposed to be full of potential; you’re supposed to be full of talent, capacity, product. Potential is a glimpse of what could be, yet there must be a shift from where we have potential to where we are potent.

Yet, as much potential as we might have, making this transition isn’t all that easy.

No one moves from potential to maximum capacity without the help of others. Often lost potential is the result of lack of investment. This doesn’t abdicate us from personal responsibility. In the end, we are responsible for our potential. It is just a reminder that our responsibility goes beyond harnessing our potential to developing potential of others.

This timely moment will bring me to my next book, ‘Ten things I learned from Bill Porter’. Bill Porter was born with celebral palsy. Imagine the job he had? I won’t tell you. As Bill says, “Never doubt that your life is important.’ And you can change the world, one door at a time. And you can unlock your potential, one step at a time.
:: I’m going to try for it!

Everyday

Everyday,
If I can wake up to see you,
Everyday,
If I can catch a glimpse of that smile,
Everyday,
If you would just make me smile too,
Everyday,
Would simply just be like yesterday.

What are you doing here?

As I lay my finger on the keyboard, I am thinking to myself what should this entry be about. I could write about anything really but shall figure out what struck me most recently and cement that memory here. I realized that I retired to bed really early last night, before 9pm. Yes, I was that TIRED!

I guess the tiredness could be attributed to the lack of smooth rest over the weekend. Not to discount the factor of having dreams that don’t entirely make sense but inviting you to wake up every other hour or so. Nonetheless, I was rested enough to do what was right over the weekend.

The highlight in my life now are the touring performances with Footstool Players. This experience has proved to be a strong and encouraging one for me. There is so much in me that has to be thankful for this countless opportunity to be preparing for the service, to be praying and asking, seeking His strength at all times.

Let me share with you what God has taught me so far. That for every church we visit, its always a new experience all together. No one performance is any like the one before. Nor the response or feedback. This is not mere marketing or product selling of hope and love. Its the message that is shared to the hearts, the reminder that we as believers have the knowledge of salvation.

The theme Runaway Bride centers around mainly for christians on how the bride, the church, has the lost its identity of Christ. How the church has failed to live up to the expectations of Christ itself. And no matter what we do, we’ll never be able to grasp what Christ did for us. He did for our sins. He washed is away. He did it. He simply did it. I could never imagine myself in that position.

That’s God’s love. He runs after us while we run away, while we are still lost in the world. And now as believers, we have that knowledge, what do we do with that knowledge? do we share the love of Christ or are we burying the knowledge?

I think God always ask one simple question, “What are you doing here?”. For every circumstance you’re in, for every trouble that you’re in, and or anything else; the question arises.

SO here I am in my life, answering that question…what am I doing here?

:: When we offer ourselves as instruments for God’s purpose, we create opportunities for others to experience God through us.
